It's the third time the Administrative Earnings Threshold has gone up in a year
The Department for Work and Pensions is targeting 110,000 Universal Credit claimants with tough new work rules.
This is the equivalent to an individual working 18 hours per week at the National Living Wage, or the claimants in a couple working a total of 29 hours per week at the National Living Wage. The increase means 110,000 people will now find themselves below that new threshold and facing greater pressure to get a job paying at least those amounts in wages, BirminghamLive reports.
In January this year, the AET went up again to £617 for single claimants and £988 for couples. This is equivalent to an individual working 15 hours per week at the National Living Wage or the claimants in a couple working a total of 24 hours per week at the National Living Wage. "The further increase to the AET will bring an estimated 110,000 more claimants into the Intensive Work Search regime from the Light Touch regime. Our work coaches will review and agree to new claimant commitments, providing more support and setting appropriate requirements to help them access opportunities to increase their earnings."
