Although the MCU Infinity Saga reached the height of its popularity in Phase 3, re-watching these 11 films reveals some harsh realities.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 3 concluded the Infinity Saga in spectacular fashion, but rewatching the phase’s 11 films four years later, unfortunately, highlights some harsh realities. The MCU began as a series of Marvel superhero solo films from Marvel Entertainment’s in-house movie studio, Marvel Studios.
Avengers: Endgame Would Have Been The Perfect End To The MCU Obviously, the MCU was never going to end with Endgame and there have been several genuine successes since Phase 3, but the final Avengers movie of Phase 3 is, ultimately, a perfect stopping point for the MCU’s overarching narrative. The MCU has struggled to make its new Multiverse Saga as engaging as the Infinity Saga thus far and general interest in the MCU is declining.
Spider-Man Lacked Too Many Core Traits From The Comics Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is a deservedly beloved MCU hero and worthy successor to the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield iterations, but he was put in an unfortunate position as both the third live-action Spider-Man and the first in the MCU. To differentiate Holland’s Spider-Man from his predecessors, he was made into a largely original take on the character who lacks numerous key traits from the comic iteration.
Thor Should Have Become More Serious, Not “Bro Thor” Ragnarok already trivialized Thor’s characterization, supporting characters, and lore for the sake of comic relief, but the God of Thunder’s portrayal in Infinity War helped mitigate these problematic elements by adding actual emotional consequences to Thor losing his friends, family, and Asgard. Unfortunately, Endgame undid this progress by doubling down on Ragnarok’s trivialization and turning Thor into a joke once again.
