Spider-Man's foes are fun to cheer for and hate!
Many of the villains in Spider-Man's rogue gallery are iconic in their own right, for one reason or another. The Wallcrawler is consistently trying to save his villains and some have made better strides than others. Spider-Man's antagonists always find a way to bounce back, whether it's for the better or worse.
13 Tinkerer Tinkerer is one of Spider-Man's oldest foes, having originally debuted in Amazing Spider-Man #2 in 1963. The comic villain, Phineas Mason, underwent his share of loss. His son was killed by villains, which led him to seek revenge on the Judge who sentenced him – and released them. However, Tinkerer is known for aiding villains, not fully being one himself.
10 Black Tarantula Beginning as a crime lord in the '90s, as first seen in Amazing Spider-Man #419, Black Tarantula has actually succeeded in turning over a new leaf. He has fought alongside Daredevil repeatedly, moving out from his early days as a foe to Spider-Man. Hoping to pass his generational powers down to his son - who his ex-wife took away from him - the two crossed paths.
7 Gog Gog has made very few appearances, but each has been rather stellar in developing the character. He initially appeared as an ally to Kraven the Hunter in the Savage Lands, within the pages of 1971's Amazing Spider-Man #103. Years later, his origin would be revealed to be tragic in 2020's Amazing Spider-Man #42. Gog is an alien who used to be a pet, until the boy he loved died in battle.
4 Sandman Another classic Spider-Man foe has been causing trouble since his 1963 debut in Amazing Spider-Man #4. His troubled past is a large part of what makes him such an interesting villain. Like several other villains in Spider-Man's gallery, Sandman had issues with his father, who was absent, leaving him with a distant mother. This was detailed in 2007's Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Annual #1, which revealed Flint Marko's history of being intensely bullied.
