Eating is the biggest change. With your stomach no longer there to break down the food, you have to compensate by over-chewing it, especially at first when your small intestines are first getting used to food coming their way. The recovery took a toll on his entire body. Davison was barely able to walk at first, and wasn’t able to go up stairs on his own. He felt hopeless, and didn’t think he would be able to race again.But he remembered his conversations with other patients in similar situations who had gone on to live active lives, and he saw a small chance of getting back out to races.He took those baby steps until steps turned into walking, and walking into running, swimming, and biking.
