The crash that led to Melanise Torres’ death was reported at 7:15 a.m. at mile marker 13.1, police said. The preliminary investigation indicates the Nissan Versa in which Torres was a passenger was heading east on the interstate when it went off the left side of the highway and into the median, police said. It collided with a westbound Volvo tractor-trailer on the other side of the highway, police said.
The 18-year-old man from Bloomfield, New Jersey, who was driving the Nissan suffered moderate injuries, police said. The driver of the Volvo was not hurt, police said.Our journalism needs your support. Please subscribe today to
