Around 6 p.m. March 21, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Port Richmond Way, where someone reported that a man, later identified as Khudhair Hamdan, 55, was unresponsive and lying on the road, police had said.Investigators learned Hamdan was helping a family member sell a car through social media, and had agreed to take someone who had expressed interest in purchasing the vehicle for a test drive, police said.
While traveling in the car along Port Richmond Way, one of the two men Hamdan took for a test drive shot him, police said. Hamdan collapsed after he got out of the vehicle, according to police. The two men then drove away with the car, later abandoning it behind a shopping center near the intersection of Matlock and Sublett roads.
“Mr. Hamdan was simply trying to help a relative sell a car — and now his family’s entire world has been turned upside down,” Arlington Chief of Police Al Jones said in a written statement. “Violent offenders like these, who are willing to kill a man for a vehicle they abandoned a few minutes later, have no place on our streets.”.
