FAIRBANKS, Alaska - A tax refund means money back in your pocket, and some Alaskans still have an opportunity to get an IRS refund from as far back as 2018. With the deadline to apply approaching, the IRS is asking Alaskans to fill out their incomplete 2018 tax returns as soon as they can.

Roughly 5,500 tax payers have the potential to be refunded money. Specifically in Alaska, there is just over $6 million in unclaimed tax refunds from 2018., download and print out the 2018 Form 1040, and mail it to the IRS for a possible refund. A spokesperson with the IRS recommends all residents send their forms in as soon as possible, given that the deadline is nearing on April 18th, which is also the deadline to submit a return for a 2018 refund.

David Tucker, spokesperson with the IRS says, “Folks could be potentially be leaving ‘money on the table’ so to speak, meaning that these are monies that they could potentially have coming back to them in the form of a refund. That’s money that could also go into the community and help out local communities in terms of having those monies coming to those various taxpayers that are potentially eligible.”Copyright 2022 KTVF.
