The 2024 Mazda CX-90 SUV will be the automaker's first 'performance oriented' plug-in hybrid electric vehicle with an all-new inline-six engine.

This new setup will be dubbed the"e-Skyactiv" plug-in hybrid powertrain. According to Mazda, the electrified powertrain has been"tuned specifically for the North American market." As you may have guessed by now, the mysterious inline-six engine we first learned of a year ago is an integral part of this new hybrid system. Unfortunately, that was pretty much all that Mazda is willing to share for now.
We do know that the full-sized three-row American-made CX-90 SUV is set to make its world premiere in January next year. So, it shouldn't be too much longer before we get more information from Mazda. The same platform the CX-90 is built on will be the foundation for the upcoming smaller CX-70 SUV as well.
