A throwback name returns to Subie's lineup. Get an up close and personal first look at the 2024 Subaru WRX TR fresh off its Subiefest Florida debut.
, we're getting our first look at the brand-new 2024 Subaru WRX TR sport sedan. The more advanced readers will notice that there isn't an"STI" in's name. If those were the three letters you were waiting to read, you're going to have to wait a bit longer—today's WRX soldiers on without a more powerful, more capable STI variant. However, even if you're holding out for the STI we think you'll still find the WRX's new TR trim interesting.
The 2024 Subaru WRX TR takes a different approach. Since the turbocharged WRX serves as its base from the get-go, there isn't a more-powerful model from which to borrow an engine, because there isn't anything above the WRX in Subie's performance lineup. The same 271-hp 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer engine found in the 2023 WRX carries over, then, and per Subie usual power is sent to all four wheels via the brand's symmetrical all-wheel drive system.
Also aiding handling are a set of stiffer springs and revised dampers. The steering rack has been"retuned" to sharpen steering response. To shave a few pounds off the curb weight, the power moon roof is deleted on the TR trim.In the original Impreza TR, sport seats were swapped out for base model seats—but the new WRX TR takes the opposite approach. Here, you'll find an upgrade set of black and grey Recaro seats upholstered in Ultrasuede. Infotainment remains the same with an 11.
New for 2024 every manual-transmission-equipped WRX will come with the EyeSight suite of active driver assist features standard. Subaru is doing the same with the BRZ as revealed with the tS model earlier this year.
Subaru hasn't released pricing for the WRX TR yet, but considering that the automaker is referring to it as a"top-tier" trim, our hopes of it coming in as a bargain, like the original, may be out the window. The price tag will play a major factor in a customer's decision to pull the trigger on the TR or continue to wait for a future STI—if one ever materializes. In the meantime stay tuned for further updates.
