The future of Old Trafford is high on the agenda for Man United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and a task force has been created to explore options.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe immediately set the wheels in motion to address the future of Old Trafford after acquiring a minority stake but the process was never going to be straightforward.
The inaugural task force meeting was held in April and when asked about it, Manchester's Mayor, Burnham, told the MEN: "It was an introductory meeting. We were all getting to know each other, although most of us knew each other already, but just scoping out what we could do. The task force held their second meeting at the beginning of this month and United's chief operating officer, Collette Roche, said: "Regarding the longer-term project, the Old Trafford regeneration task force met for the second time last week, including Duncan Drasdo.
"So in an ideal world, absolutely, that’s where I would be, but you’ve got to be practical about life. In broad terms, a refurb is one and a new stadium — both of these would include the campus so, you know, the museum’s c**p and the shop is too small and you’d have the Xbox thing for entertaining the fans.
If Ratcliffe gets his way and all stakeholders agree to rebuild Old Trafford on the same site, the earliest date work could begin might be the summer of 2025. That would also be seen as moving fast considering the 71-year-old became co-owner of the club in February 2024. Ratcliffe will celebrate his 75th birthday in 2028 and there's a feeling he's been so intent on addressing the future of Old Trafford to leave a legacy behind in Manchester.
