Alan B. Miller, who was named president and CEO in JulyWalker has continued to be part of a team that has raised $18 million to build a replica of Independence Hall in Philadelphia that they hope will be open and a centerpiece of celebration by July 4, 2026, in time for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.Walker came up with the idea for American Village in the 1980s.
They are especially popular with the thousands of school children who visit on field trips throughout the year.“I hope what we’ve left is a good beginning,” Walker said. “I hope that long after all of us are gone, the place will be adapting to a continuing challenge and mission to prepare young and old to fully participate in the American experiment of self-government.”
“I hope that the place still is reflective of a national aspiration to be an American people who share ideals,” Walker aid. “Their politics may differ, but at their core they may feel united at a fundamental level.”
