The region will bask in warm temperatures and stunning sunshine
Lancashire is set to bathe in glorious sunshine later this week as temperatures are predicted to rise.
Above-average temperatures for September are also expected for the rest of the weekend. Highs of 22C could be seen in the county on Saturday and 21C on Sunday. The Met Office has forecast "a spell of unsettled weather" for southern England, which may bring thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds, and hail. The worst-hit regions could see over 50mm of rain within just two hours.
The criteria for a heatwave is a period of three consecutive days where the maximum temperature meets or exceeds the heatwave temperature threshold for that particular area. For Scotland, the threshold is 25C, according to the Met Office website.
