It's been two decades since 28 Days Later, which makes Danny Boyle's plans for 28 Years Later all the more appropriate - but is the sequel happening?

Following 2002's 28 Days Later and 2007's 28 Weeks Later, there has been the hope that the trilogy of the zombie movies will be completed with the predictable third movie being 28 Months Later.
28 Days Later director Danny Boyle went on to explain that this new idea got them interested in pursuing the story, and he reveals "we're talking about it quite seriously, quite diligently." He also revealed that, while he is helping to develop the story, he is waiting to see if Garland wants to direct it himself. Garland has proven himself as a sci-fi director with Ex Machina and Annihilation and could certainly do a great job with the latest 28 Days Later sequel.
28 Years Later: Cast No office 28 Years Later cast has been announced, but it seems as though the 28 Days Later sequel would feature Cillian Murphy returning to the franchise after not appearing in 28 Weeks Later. The first movie ended with the survivors seemingly rescued after the quarantine order worked and the infected were starved off. However, there is some question as to what happened to Murphy's Jim after 28 Days Later as the sequel sees the virus break out again.
