Police with the University of Virginia said the shooting took place at a parking garage on campus just after 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
“This is a message any leader hopes never to have to send, and I am devastated that this violence has visited the University of Virginia,” President Jim Ryan said inRyan’s letter confirmed that the suspect, who he said was a student, was still at large Monday morning.by law enforcement as Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., who was last seen wearing a burgundy jacket, blue jeans and red shoes. He may be driving a black SUV with Virginia tag TWX3580.
Multiple law enforcement agencies said they are coordinating to find and apprehend Jones, who was listed as a member of the UVA football team in 2018. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said agents were responding to the campus to assist in the investigation.Police said the suspect is at large and considered to be armed and dangerous., and they urged people on campus to remain sheltered.Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin has released a statement sending his thoughts and prayers to the UVA community.
