Steve Conroy was on ref watch for Record Sport and gives his expert opinion on the big Ibrox decisions in 3-3 thriller.
Rangers and Celtic produced an Old Firm firecracker to keep the title race smouldering with a final derby decider to come after the Premiership split. It looked like Philippe Clement's men were offering up a damp squib as Brendan Rodgers' side threatened to put the afterburners on in the first half, opening up a two-goal lead without really breaking sweat.
Celtic's penalty The ball hitting Connor Goldson's elbow wouldn't have been a penalty in seasons gone by. But under the current rules, the Rangers centre back couldn't have much in the way of argument. The outcome seemed inevitable when Beaton was called over to the monitor for a look at the incident, which he assumedly didn't see through a throng of bodies as the cross came in.
Rangers' penalty If at first you don't succeed, try, try and try again. It's a philosophy that Fabio Silva rigorously applied during this one, only too happy to throw himself to the deck in a bid to win fouls. Beaton finally decided he'd had enough in the second half, although VAR Nick Walsh wasn’t so hasty.
"I said at half-time regarding Silva, if I had been refereeing him and I didn't caution him for that bit where he was rolling around as if he'd had something amputated, I’d certainly have had words with him afterwards and let him know exactly what I thought of him. But you shouldn't go into any game with any preconceived ideas. You call it as you see it. But I wouldn’t be shy in that situation of saying, 'I'm watching you".
