49ers star Deebo Samuel punctuated a rough Sunday against the Browns by taking to social media to threaten to fight Lions' C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
Deebo Samuel’s rough Sunday started and ended with a fight. The 49ers wide receiver was smack in the middle of a pregame scuffle with the Browns after charging at Cleveland safety Juan Thornhill while the two teams were face-to-face. That was effectively the extent of the action he’d see Sunday in pads, as he suffered a shoulder injury during the Niners’ second drive of the game. He was ruled out at halftime.
Attached to Deebo’s post was a pixelated video from a 2020 incident where Chicago Bears receiver Javon Wims repeatedly punched Gardner-Johnson — then on the Saints — in the helmet. It might not be the best comparison since Wims was ejected from that game, finished with one catch for 9 yards, was heavily criticized by his coach after the game and hasn’t done anything notable in the league since. Gardner-Johnson then replied twice.
