5 hiring hacks to find the right talent for your startup:
If you’re advertising in the right place, you’ll have more applicants than ever. But this can create another set of challenges. Many a great candidate has slipped through the net due to inefficient hiring processes. Lost emails, attachments buried within threads, even misplaced paper. The more holes in the bucket the more candidates will be overlooked; not ideal for finding talent.
Nolte recommends “who style interviews” to generate answers that are indicative of true ability and character:they really are. “Examples of past and current behaviours give better insights into a candidate's tendencies and by using this method, you get a super clear picture of where they have been in the past and may be heading in the future.
“This might be common sense to some entrepreneurs, but we all inherently have biases when we hire,” Nolte warns. “Most of us like to hire people just like us and I was guilty of this for a long time.” There are ways to overcome inherent bias. “The easiest solution is to have other people on your team cross-interview the same person.
“My business partner has worked for some great tech companies in Silicon Valley,” explains Nolte. “He had a manager that once told him that once you've narrowed it down to a couple of solid candidates, it's really just a coin flip.” He explained that, “You won't know exactly how someone fits in your team until you start working with them.” If you've followed the steps above and you've done enough analysis, it's time to take action.
