Mufasa: The Lion King is a sequel and prequel combined and can answer some of the most burning questions about Mufasa and Scar's troubled story.
The upcoming Disney movie, Mufasa: The Lion King, has the opportunity to answer several questions left unanswered by the original movies—especially regarding Mufasa and Scar's relationship. The film is supposed to follow the events of the 2019 full-CGI remake of The Lion King and bounce back and forth through time as Rafiki tells Pumba and Timon the story of King Mufasa's upbringing.
Recent Disney movies such as Encanto and Turning Red have made their villains the concept of generational trauma as opposed to a single malicious enemy. This can retrospectively be applied to many Disney villains since the assumption that individuals like Snow White's evil queen and Tangled's Mother Gothel act the way they do because of trauma passed on to them from their own childhood experiences.
It could be that Mufasa believed that he and Scar shared a mutual love because this had once been true. Perhaps when they were children, the brothers had a much closer relationship than was ever seen in The Lion King.
Did Scar Have A History With Sarabi Before The Lion King? In the 2019 The Lion King remake, Scar insinuates that Sarabi had once turned him down in favor of his brother. With Mufasa dead, he believed the queen would willingly become his. But, of course, this wasn't the case, and her disdain was the start of the all-out war that concluded the film. It could just be that Scar had delusions of grandeur when it came to Sarabi.
