Five students who fell ill Tuesday at Selma High School – including a 16-year-old who died – possibly ingested something laced with fentanyl, authorities said.
Selma police Capt. Natasha Fowlkes said authorities are trying to determine if all of the incidents are connected.
Selma City Schools Superintendent Zickeyous Byrd said in a statement that the teen who died was a sophomore at Selma High School. “As a community, we are deeply saddened by the death of this young scholar,’’ Byrd said. “We ask for prayers for the young man’s family, the faculty, staff and students of Selma High School as we all continue to grieve. This is such a shock for our Saints Nation family.”
