An official for the Hamas-run health ministry official in Gaza said at least 500 were killed in the air strike
The al-Ahli Arab Baptist Hospital in Gaza City was hit on Tuesday – with unverified videos showing a huge explosion.. The death toll appeared fluid, with other reports suggesting 300 people had died with more feared trapped under the rubble.
Hamas, which killed at least 1,400 people in its attack on Israel and took 199 hostages, decried the strike as a war crime. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general of the World Health Organization, “strongly condemned” the attack. Several hospitals in Gaza City have become refuges for hundreds of people seeking shelter from aerial bombardment after Israel ordered all residents of the city and surrounding areas to evacuate to the southern Gaza Strip.
