The debate over moderation and censorship has been a major partisan flashpoint in the past few months with President Donald Trump publicly railing against Twitter, which had labeled some of his posts for violating the platform’s policies on glorifying violence. Trump had reacted to Twitter labeling of his tweets by calling the platform biased and signing an executive order aimed at removing some of the legal protections given to social platforms.

Views on platforms labeling posts from elected officials are largely divided along partisan lines with 73% of Democrats approving of the practice and 71% of Republicans disapproving of it.The presidential election cycle seems to have created a sense of weariness about the amount of political content on social media. According to a, 55% of Americans said that they feel “worn out” by how many political posts and discussions they see on social media.
