It was significant that celebrations in London for the anniversary kicked off at Waterloo station - because this is where thousands of Caribbean migrants would have arrived, passing through the station to start their new lives across Britain.
But he says:"I met a lot of English people who looked after me, they looked after me like we were family. I think that helped me along." "I'm the youngest of three born here," she says, before explaining that her elder sibling, who was born in Jamaica, did not join them until they were nine years old."Coming over here and leaving all their family behind, it would have been so hard. They moved into a house that had five different families living there, imagine."
"There is not much within British society that hasn't been impacted. Even the Equality Act, this was driven by Caribbean people".First of all - recognising the struggles the Windrush generation faced after arriving in a strange land.And, thirdly, recognising that their descendants today still face their own challenges.
