Heroes of action movies usually live to save the day in several sequels, but those who die for their cause have had some of the most tragic deaths imaginable. Action movies tend to be thrilling, exciting, and despite impossibly high stakes, the hero always survives, whether it's John McClane in the Die Hard movies or any number of action heroes in The Expendables franchise. Even superheroes that die in one cinematic universe end up coming back from the dead sooner or later.
William Wallace Wallace is a perfect example of a movie hero who sacrificed himself for the needs of the many, as he fought for Scotland's independence against King Edward I in the late-13th century. However, Wallace's death was much worse in real life, and while it's hinted at that he was hanged, drawn, and quartered, the real-life warrior was also dragged naked through the streets of London, had his intestines burned in front of him, and had his heart cut out of his chest.
Severus Snape For almost a decade, Severus Snape was seen as the villain in the Harry Potter series, and it wasn't until the final act of the last movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, that he was actually protecting Harry the whole time. This information arrived after Snape's, death making it tragic in hindsight. Snape could have easily saved himself from Voldemort, but doing so would have endangered Harry, meaning that Snape actually died a hero.
