It's been four decades since German pop star Nena found worldwide stardom with the hit song 99 Red Balloons, but the singer looks like she hasn't aged a day since finding fame
German singer Nena rose to fame in the 1980s with her self-titled band. The star, real name Gabriele Susanne Kerner, formed the group with fellow musicians Rolf Brendel, Jurgen Dehmel, Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen and Carlo Karges. Nena released their first single, Nur geträumt, in 1982, which became an instant hit in Germany.
99 Red Balloons became Nena's most successful song. The band continued to enjoy success and toured the world, but in 1987 they split and lead vocalist Nena revealed she was going solo. She kicked off her solo career in 1989 with her debut album Wunder gescheh'n - which translates to "Miracles Happen".
From 2009, Nena began releasing music on her own record label, The Laugh & Peas Company. The label also promotes the work of Nena's daughter's group, as well as that of The Voice of Germany's Sharron Levy.
