The manual Civic Type R may be the perfect speed for the 'Ring's open sessions. It is fast and performance-oriented, but not so fast that open lapping involves navigating a maze of constant traffic. The Seats and Volkswagens the driver encounters over the course of the lap seem relatively pedestrian by comparison, but approach speeds are relatively reasonable and the driver quickly returns to open track for long stretches afterward.
The driver has a few dramatic moments over the course of the lap, most notably two huge slides in hairpins helped along by aggressive steering inputs. The Pilot Sport 4S-equipped Type R is more than up to the task, sliding back into control after a substantial application of countersteer. This run is nothing like a timed lap and no official 'Ring time has yet been announced for the latest Type R, but the previous generation Civic Type R lapped the Nordschleife in 7:43.8. That was good enough for the front-wheel-drive record at the time, but the Renault Megane R.S. Trophy-R took that record away with a time of 7:40.1 back in 2019.
