Aura Fiera Rosado, whose DJ moniker is De Alma, is a fixture in the Bay Area’s queer and trans party scene. She’s been watching how nightlife on either side of the bridge has changed since she lived in what she calls “the heart of all the SoMa action” in the early 2010s, back when flagship parties like Hella Gay and Ships in the Night were some of the only queer nightlife events available in the East Bay.
“We saw this as an opportunity that Oakland really needed because most venues there are under 2,000 square feet,” Fuentes said. “What I see right now in Oakland’s LGBT nightlife is an opportunity where finally, Oaklanders don’t have to cross the bridge because they’ll be able to hop from bar to bar here and have a different experience at every bar. I think it’s going to be a great renaissance for Oakland.
Oakland To All started by holding weekly balls at Lake Merritt through the summer of 2021, but once the weather started getting colder and indoor venues opened back up, it was time to find a more permanent space — something that proved to be difficult.
