'The MAC is a 'one bid' league when it comes to the NCAA. That one bid goes to the team that has the best weekend at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in downtown Cleveland,' writes Terry Pluto. 'For coaches, that really is 'March Madness.''
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Kent State enters the MAC Tournament with a 25-6 record. The Golden Flashes have won 22 consecutive home games dating back to last season. Then there’s Akron, which finished third in the MAC with a 13-5 record.
“I understand the fans want to go the NCAA’s.” said Kent State coach Rob Senderoff. “That should be the goal of every player and coach. You want to get there for your fans and for your players and for your school.” “What Rob has done at Kent is amazing,” said Flashes athletic director Randale Richmond. “I tell people to enjoy the moment, appreciate the journey. We have a 22-game home winning streak. We’ve had two of the best back-to-back regular seasons in school history. We want to go to the NCAAs, but it can’t all be about that.”
Groce made a good point that a regular-season title does insure a team a spot in the National Invitational Tournament.
