A’s get off to good start, falter, then rally for the tie and lead before losing to Rays in 10th
Wander Franco and Manuel Margot delivered run-scoring hits in the bottom of the 10th inning Tuesday against Athletics closer Lou Trivino as the host Tampa Bay Rays prevailed 9-8.
The A’s had taken an 8-7 lead in the top of the 10th when Billy McKinney’s RBI single drove home free runner Chad Pinder from second base.The Athletics tied it in the seventh inning with help from Tampa Bay reliever Ralph Garza Jr., who retired the first two hitters before issuing back-to-back walks to Jed Lowrie and Sean Murphy. Seth Brown lined a single to drive in one run and then Chad Pinder sliced a two-run double past Manuel Margot in right to bring home two more.
Tampa Bay took a 6-3 lead on a solo home run by Brett Phillips in the third, with the A’s getting within 6-4 in the sixth on Stephen Piscotty’s RBI infield single which brought home Brown.
