Springfield USA, I smiled to myself as “Believer” by Imagine Dragons and Marshmello’s “Happier” played through my headphones, compliments of my 9-year-old who surprised me with a Mother’s DayFollowing the pack toward the first mile marker, I felt a sudden wave of calm wash over me in front of Hogwarts Castle. That’s when I realized that I wasn’t just running to mourn Mom’s death anymore. I was running to celebrate her life.
, and cruised past the animatronic versions of Jaws and King Kong, I felt remarkably light and free in a way I hadn’t for months. Honestly, I felt like I could do anything.I know I’ll always miss Mom, regardless of how many more Mother’s Days I spend without her. I know I’ll always feel the heavy weight of her absence. I know I’ll always wish she was still here with me.
That said, Mom was always my biggest cheerleader. She helped me cross the finish line at every stage of life, whether it was getting into college, nabbing my dream job, or finally becoming a mother myself. So that’s exactly what I did on Sunday, sailing right past two Minions and a man dressed as a giant banana toward the finish line, where I finally landed straight into the open arms of my cheering husband and children, just like I know Mom would have wanted me to.Advertisement - Continue Reading Below
