Now, Afzali lives in Lake Highlands, near White Rock Lake, works at Pfizer and owns a car — most of which, he says, he has the Dallas community to thank for.Morning News “Right now, I’m one of those people who have been paroled for two years,” Afzali said. “Right now, we don’t have any pathway to permanent residency or to, you know, citizenship or something like that.”

But Afzali has worked to assuage some of these concerns and advocate for Afghans on a national level — he even conducted a focus group, prepared a presentation on barriers refugees face in the resettlement process and delivered it to high-level Biden administration officials at the George W. Bush Presidential Center.when the couple welcomed a small group of recent Afghan evacuees to the Bush Institute for a conversation on their experiences resettling in the U.S.

“The more and more she told me about it, I just said, ‘Well, let’s get him,’” said Wunderlick, who works at a private wealth firm inside Western Mutual. “I had lost my middle son in November of 2020 and, you know, I guess I’ve always helped people out whenever I can. It’s kind of what we’re supposed to be doing, I think, on this planet.”
