I just don’t know how you can be more valuable than Aaron Judge was for the Yankees.
If Shohei Ohtani had 22 homers plus a 4.10 ERA in 27 starts, that would qualify as one of the most remarkable seasons ever.
Meanwhile, Ohtani had 5.9 Wins Above Replacement as a pitcher, fifth-best in the majors. The guy with the second-best strikeout percentage among qualified pitchers, at 33.1, also has two fewer triples as a hitter than the entire Yankees team. It still feels impossible that one person can do that. It feels even more impossible, having experienced what I think is the greatest individual season in baseball history, to write this sentence: I don’t think he is the AL Most Valuable Player.
Judge was 16-for-19 in steal attempts — and he wasn’t padding. Fourteen of the thefts came in games in which the score was within two runs one way or the other and 10 came with the Yankees leading or trailing by a run or with the score tied.

Aaron Judge Stays at 61 Homers as Orioles Beat Yankees 2-1Aaron Judge didn’t come close to hitting his 62nd home run, going 1 for 2 with a pair of walks as the Baltimore Orioles beat the New York Yankees 2-1. One game after tying the American League home run record that Yankees star Roger Maris set in 1961, Judge struck out in the first inning, singled in the third and walked in the sixth against Jordan Lyles, then was intentionally walked in the eighth by rookie Félix Bautista. Judge has six games left: two this weekend against the Orioles and then four at Texas that end the regular season.
