Five people accused of murdering Blackpool dad Mark Gibson say they were acting in self defence in a melee in which Mr Gibson was stabbed to death.

Home office pathologist Dr Alison Armour said once the knife had been plunged into Mr Gibson’s right shoulder he would fall to the ground within a minute. Time markers on CCTV footage show there was just one minute between the initial attack on the corner of Carshalton Road, Mr Gibson running to a nearby house for help, a melee in the garden, and Mr Gibson slumping over the garden wall.
They will need to consider where each defendant was at the time of the stabbing, and what they understood was happening. Alex Leach, defending Steel, said her involvement was "more mindless than carefully considered". She did not take a weapon to the scene although she took a tyre iron from Sean Neil and hit Mr Gibson with it in the garden.
