There’s a popular theory in Boston that Betts wanted out anyway. That he would never have re-signed. That his quiet demeanor with the Red Sox and stated desire to be paid full market value were indications that he didn’t like Boston and was always looking for greener pastures.“We were happy in Boston,” his mother, Diana Collins, said. “We thought things were going well and were just going to pan out. … We had considered Boston would be our home.
