Adult children left with grief, regret after murder of mom in Harrisburg’s Sunken Gardens
Her daughter always worried Shannon, 53, might die from a drug overdose.
Now, they are struggling to figure out how to pay for funeral services. Jessica, a single mother of five, wants to raise at least enough to cremate her mother’s remains.Shannon was addicted to drugs for Hassell’s entire life, and possibly before she was born, too. When Hassell was about 5 years old, she said her dad took custody of her and her younger brother Andrew to provide them with stability.“She was a very happy person. She was very full of life and had a life to live,” Hassell said.
After not talking for years, Shannon and Jessica Hassell reconnected when Hassell gave birth to her first child about 14 years ago, Hassell said. However, the addiction that plagued Shannon continued in the following years.
