Mike DeWine's office.COLUMBUS, Ohio – Longtime Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Joan Synenberg will remain on the bench for at least another two years after Gov. Mike DeWine appointed her on Thursday to fill another vacant seat with the same court.

DeWine, a Republican, appointed Synenberg, a Republican, to fill a Cuyahoga County Common Pleas term that expires in January 2025. The seat became open after Judge Deborah Turner this year decided to run for a different, open Common Pleas seat in a calculation that allowed Turner to dodge an otherwise imminent mandatory retirement due to judicial age limits. Turner, a Democrat, easily won the election in November, and now will be required to retire in early 2029, rather than in early 2025.
