INYO COUNTY – Containment of the Airport Fire burning east of Bishop in Inyo County jumped to 20% Thursday, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
The wildfire, which ignited Wednesday afternoon near Airport Road and East Line Street, has consumed 4,136 acres, Cal Fire said in an incident update Thursday night. “Weather and terrain are hindering suppression efforts,” Cal Fire said, but “ground crews are continuing to mop up and strengthen control lines.”
Evacuation orders have been lifted, but the White Mountain Research Center and Caltech Owens Valley Radio Observatory remain threatened, according to Cal Fire. Warm Springs Road east of Highway 395 and Highway 168 east of Highway 395 remain closed, Cal Fire said.
