Jason Shockley, 32, will be eligible for parole after 25 years.
AKRON, Ohio — An Akron man who pleaded guilty to the 2020 murders of two elderly men was sentenced Monday to life in prison.
Jason Shockley, 32, will be eligible for parole after 25 years, according to Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh. Shockley was sentenced by Common Pleas Court Judge Christine Croce. On April 8, 2020, 69-year-old Ben King was found stabbed to death in his Akron home, authorities say. Just over a month later, 68-year-old Garry Ballis was found stabbed to death in his Akron home.
Following the murder of Ballis, Shockley was arrested after he was found with Ballis’ stolen vehicle, as well as knives and credit cards belonging to Ballis, according to prosecutors. Police say Shockley knew both King and Ballis because Shockley’s mother was their caretaker. Shockley lived in an abandoned house a few houses down from King and less than a mile from Ballis’ home, police say.More crime-related content on cleveland.
