After three weeks of spring practice, Alabama held its first scrimmage Friday afternoon in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
The scrimmage, which served as the eighth of 14 practices this spring, was closed to reporters and the public. But coach Nick Saban held a news conference after its conclusion.— “There was a lot of good things out there. I thought the intensity was good. There was a lot of good hitting,” Saban said, adding they tried to play physical.

Dallas Turner and Chris Braswell were out because of injury, and Kool-Aid McKinstry missed the scrimmage for family reasons. — Saban said Malachi Moore played safety Friday, and has gotten some time at star. Freshman Caleb Downs has gotten a lot of reps. Earl Little played some star, too.
— Saban was asked about Hugh Freeze’s suggestion of Auburn playing another in-state school for a spring game. Saban said he “didn’t know anything about that.” Saban said “we’re always interested in helping people any way that we can. If that’s the purpose of what they’re doing, that’s certainly a good thing.”
