If you think of him more as a Flora-Bama type of guy, the venue for Rock Killough’s next Lower Alabama appearance may take you by surprise: It’s a bookstore.
Alabama native Killough is singer-songwriter whose writing and co-writing credits include songs recorded by a long list of stars: The Oak Ridge Boys , Hank Williams Jr. , Randy Travis and more. Though better known for music, he has published a memoir titled “Front Porch Stories,” a collection of tranquil meditations on life with his canine companion Tater and reflections on his life as a musician. The title is matter of fact: Many of Killough’s short essays document the passing of the seasons and the growth of his garden, as seen from his front porch. All in all, the book is a study in tranquility.
He’ll visit Page & Palette bookstore, 32 S. Section Street in Fairhope, for an “author and music event” from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21. The event, which is free, also will feature musician Mac Walter. “Front Porch Stories” is available in paperback, hardback and audiobook formats.
