Alameda County prosecutors charged an Oakland man Thursday with vehicular manslaughter and other charges in connection with a collision that killed a golf-course employee earlier this week.

Police provided emergency life-saving measures for the worker, who suffered bleeding in his brain and fractures to his skull, spine and ribs. He was taken to Highland Hospital and placed on organ support without brain function. Soon after, police learned that the worker had died. Charging documents shared by the district attorney’s office Thursday identified him as Ismael Hernandez. Authorities did not release his age or city of residence.
Shortly after arresting the man on an outstanding warrant, police said, he told officers in a statement that Jason McDermott had been driving the Dodge, and that both had fled the scene after the collision. Officers who set up a perimeter around the scene spoke with witnesses who said they had seen McDermott hop fences and enter yards, but he was not found.
