Alamo Heights scored early and held on to beat Southwest 6-4 and complete a sweep in the opening round of the Class 5A softball playoffs.

The energized Mules scored three runs in the first inning. Jordan James reached first base on an error and scored on a double from Issy Haspil.Alamo Heights coach Jennifer Fox said getting the early lead in the second game was a “big momentum booster” for the Mules. Alamo Heights added three more runs in the third, extending its lead to 6-1. The Mules started the inning with two consecutive hits, a bunt single by James and a single up the middle from Haspil. Embrey doubled off the left-field wall, scoring James. After one out, Elle Leavitt hit a single into right field that drove in both Haspil and Embrey.
