Acosado por el flujo constante de solicitantes de asilo, el alcalde de Nueva York, Eric Adams, ha impuesto un límite de 30 días a la permanencia de inmigrantes adultos en refugios administrados por la ciudad para aliviar las presiones sobre el sistema maltrecho y acaso disuadir a otros migrantes que quieran venir.Pero el alcalde dijo que se trata de “un paso más en nuestros esfuerzos para ayudar a los solicitantes de asilo a dar el paso siguiente en sus gestiones”.
“Agradecemos el apoyo que hemos recibido hasta ahora de nuestros socios estatales y federales, pero tenemos más de 60.000 solicitantes de asilo a nuestro cargo, y sin ayuda adicional nos veremos obligados a seguir tomando decisiones difíciles”, dijo Adams en su anuncio.
