Wilko went into administration two weeks ago, putting the future of its 400 shops and 12,500 staff in doubt
Administrators for the stricken retailer have denied plans to close stores next week after the GMB union said “the majority” would be shut. PricewaterhouseCoopers said the claims were “speculation”.
However Aldi is now calling for staff affected by the collapse of Wilko to get in touch. It says it has 6,000 jobs currently available across its UK stores. Britain’s fourth-largest supermarket, recently announced that it is creating 800 jobs in new stores over the coming months. It said it is also recruiting for a "large volume" of other store roles across the country to support its continued expansion and hopes to offer these to those who could lose their jobs at Wilko. Available positions include store assistant, caretaker and store manager jobs.
Kelly Stokes, recruitment director at Aldi UK, said: “We continue to welcome more and more customers to Aldi stores every week, and we are working hard to meet the huge demand for our unbeatable prices. That means finding thousands of new Aldi colleagues to support this growth, which will hopefully be of interest to those who have recently lost out due to closures elsewhere.”
Aldi says store assistants are paid £11.40 per hour and those based in London receive £12.85 per hour. For more information visit www.aldirecruitment.co.uk
