The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency wants you to have fun but do so safely.
DOTHAN, Ala. -Many boaters are preparing to visit the lake this 4th of July weekend.While everyone wants to have fun this weekend, boater safety should be your main priority while enjoying Alabama’s lakes and rivers.”They need to let someone know where they are going, what time they are leaving, what time they plan on coming back. They need to make sure they have plenty of life preservers for everyone on board.
“Say you have a medical event and you fall away from the operator station or if you tiller drive and fall over or hit something and fall over, what happens is the boat will do what is called ‘the death circle.’ It won’t cut off and can run over you,” Knight said. Marine patrol will be out at places like Lake Eufaula patrolling but ultimately, it is important to look out for others.
”You want to make sure you drive at your skill level. If you are a good boater, make sure you are watching out for the novice boaters. Take time to obey the rules of the road, stay to the right of the channel, and make sure you are maintaining a proper lookout for other boaters. Your safety is your main priority so you want to make sure that you are taking care of yourself and avoid others that may not be doing the same,” Corporal Marshall, with the Marine Patrol said.
