Lawyer Brian Panish said Baldwin, who was both a producer and a star of the film, and others committed 15 “major breaches of industry safety protocols,” like not using a replica gun whenever possible, including during the “line up” camera prep during which Hutchins was shot, and accepting the weapons from someone other than the armorer, who was not present at the time of the shooting.
Baldwin’s previous claims that he had not pulled the trigger of the gun were called into question, with Panish saying “Baldwin shot the gun” and that he “engaged the trigger.” Panish said through the suit they hope to hold people “accountable” for Hutchins’ death and are seeking “substantial” compensation for Matthew and Andros. “any claim that Alec was reckless is entirely false.”“Defendant Baldwin, the Producers, and the Rust Production Companies were aware of firearms safety issues that had occurred on the set of Rust and did not take action to correct the situation and ensure that basic gun safety rules were followed on October 21, 2021,” the suit reads.
