The next Alien movie is already drawing comparisons to the most recent Predator sequel, Prey, and it must avoid a key release mistake the latter made.
The next Alien needs to avoid a big error that the most recent Predator movie fell victim to. Alien and Predator are two classic sci-fi franchises about extraterrestrial creatures stalking human prey. In terms of both box-office and critical reception, Alien has always stood above its rival. That said, they've both faced the same issue with latter-day sequels.

The franchise itself was dinged by the reception to 2018's The Predator, the fourth entry in the main series that - despite being helmed by the great Shane Black - was easily the weakest to date. The fifth entry Prey arrived in 2022, debuting on Hulu to significantly stronger reviews.
Even if Covenant was a letdown, audiences would still come out for a new Alien movie. By all accounts, the next installment will take a similar approach to Prey by stripping the Alien movie series back to basics with a cast largely comprised of unknowns.
Alien's New Movie Is On Track For A Perfect Theatrical Release Date The next Alien began shooting in March 2023 and should be done before the end of June. Álvarez posted a cute photo from the set to celebrate Alien Day, an annual event that takes place on April 26th. Factoring in post-production time, the next outing could easily be ready before April 26th, 2024. In fact, this would be the perfect release date for the new Alien, either in theaters or straight to Hulu.
