North Korea's Air Koryo airline is stocked with Cold War-era Russian planes. Flying in one is a harrowing experience but to aviation buffs they're relics of a golden age. Check out their retro designs. (From 2017)

Most of the planes date to the 1960s , the service is iffy, and the food sucks. So you can see why some people call Air KoryoBut Mebius and air travel aficionados liken a flight on Air Koryo to reliving the golden age of air travel. All told, Mebius has made 24 flights aboard 10 different kinds of aircraft, most of which were all but empty. The joyrides cost about $200 apiece, and although the aviation tourists occasionally take in the sights, the flights are the main attraction. Simply taking off felt like a grand affair. The pilot's pre-flight routine included poking the tires to ensure proper inflation. Flight attendants in dated uniforms helped passengers get settled.
