Oak Grove running back/linebacker Collin Pate is the Week 9 winner of the Hollis Wright Birmingham Player of the Week poll. Pate picked up 31 percent of the 22,208 votes cast. The Week 9 Hollis Wright Birmingham Player of the Week turned in an outstanding all-around performance and captured 31 percent of the votes cast in the poll.
Oak Grove senior running back/linebacker Collin Pate got 6,826 votes to earn top honors after his outing in a 42-21 win at Cordova. Pate ran for 173 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries for the Tigers, who improved to 5-3 and 4-2 in Class 4A, Region 5 action. Pate added 10 tackles, two behind the line of scrimmage, and forced a fumble in the win.
Hoover sophomore Jonah Winston was second in the voting after his outing in a 41-7 win at Chelsea. He ran seven times for 186 yards and three touchdowns, caught three passes for 24 yards and returned a punt 23 yards for the Bucs. John Carroll quarterback Carson McFadden finished third in the balloting after rolling up 322 total yards in a 35-12 win at Jasper. McFadden ran for 139 yards and two touchdowns, completed 12-of-15 passes for 183 yards with three TDs for the Cavaliers. The senior also punted three times, with two being downed inside the 10-yard line in the victory for 6-2 John Carroll.
Voting for the Hollis Wright Football Player of the Week opens on Sundays during the season and runs through Wednesday.
