'The Great' is Hulu's new comedy series, starring Elle Fanning as Catherine the Great alongside Nicholas Hoult, which is due to air this week.
"All she has to do is kill her husband, beat the church, baffle the military and get the court onside. A very modern story about the past which encompasses the many roles she played over her lifetime as lover, teacher, ruler, friend, and fighter."that led to Yorgos Lanthimos picking him to write.
Asked how his new Hulu show begins, he said:"We pick it up with Catherine more or less arriving in Russia to discover Peter, the emperor that she's married. And of course, as was traditional, they'd never met, so she arrives not really knowing who she's going to meet and what he's going to be like. Or even what Russia's like at the time. It's a great entrance to any TV show I guess, because she discovers this crazy world that she's now a part of.
