An amateur camera club has expressed overwhelming joy at being named World Cup Champions . The Catchlight Camera Club was crowned the 2024 FIAP World Cup for Clubs Champions, surpassing over 290 other camera clubs from around the globe who participated in the prestigious photography competition . A member of the club, Pamela Wilson, also secured the gold medal for the best photograph submitted in the entire competition, titled 'Lucky Number Seven'.

Founded 12 years ago by Ross McKelvey, this marks the second time the club has achieved this esteemed title, adding to a year of remarkable success that also saw them crowned the camera club champions for the UK and Ireland. Jennifer Willis, chairperson of Catchlight Camera Club, conveyed the club's immense pride in their accomplishment, attributing it to the dedication and collaborative spirit of its members, who consistently go above and beyond to support one another. The club currently consists of approximately 45 members with varying levels of experience. One of its primary objectives is to foster the development of each member's photographic abilities, continuously striving to enhance their skills. Jennifer emphasized: 'For a club of our size to win the World Cup for a second time is a monumental achievement, especially when you consider that we are competing against the best camera clubs worldwide, some boasting over 200 members. It demonstrably proves that Northern Ireland excels beyond its size, and it is an incredible honor for all of us to be bestowed with this title.' Catchlight Camera Club was established just over 12 years ago by Ross McKelvey with the goal of elevating the standard of photography in Northern Ireland. During this relatively short period, it has emerged as the club to beat in the UK. 'I believe one of the key reasons Catchlight has flourished is that all our members are incredibly supportive of one another, always eager to help someone learn a new skill and improve their photography. There are no secrets kept within our club, and we constantly encourage each other to experiment and expand their knowledge.' This past year has been exceptionally successful for Catchlight. Besides the FIAP World Cup victory, they also triumphed in the PAGB Print Championships, the NIPA interclub competition, and the IPF Club Championships. They are also immensely proud of their member Pamela Wilson, whose photograph was recognized as the best at the World Cup. While competitive photography is a focus at Catchlight, it is not the sole aim. The club's primary objective is for its members to genuinely enjoy their photography and produce their best work.
